The Adoption Triad Outreach (or ATO as it's more commonly known) was formed in 1996 by "Standing One" and "Lone Walk" his "better half". I believe that when the ATO was originally founded it was meant to be a place of help, of healing for any member of the adoption triad (an adoptee, an adoptee parent or a birth parent.)

I myself became a part of the group in between 1996 and 1997. When I first joined in the chat rooms, people were very supportive, very giving. I joined because I had decided to search for my birth family and as most people, I began with the Internet.

The ATO's "motto" or their "goal" is this: "The Adoption Triad Outreach was established and remains dedicated to the belief that from a base of information comes healing and support." They are supposed to be a community on the internet who helps people. When you are in a professional organization, you are not allowed to take sides. You are supposed to be there to mentor, the educate, to comfort and perhaps help to settle disputes - not to judge or pick sides.

They also receive public funding and donations from different stores ect which I will list at the end of the series of articles along with the email addresses of every staff member of the ATO.
