To: Ford Customer Relations
I'm sending this letter to make you aware
of an on going problem were having with the vehicle we recently
purchased. The vehicle is a 2002 Ford Mustang GT. To give
you some history of the vehicle, the car was purchased from
C&C Ford (Chapman Corp.) in Horsham, Pa. 19044. We traded
our 2000 Taurus that we purchased from C&C new, towards
the Mustang. The car has a 4.6-2V-engine w/5 speed manual
transmission. When we traded the Taurus in we had been told
the Mustang we wanted was at Saleen. We were told Saleen receives
vehicles from Ford and they are reconfigured to a different
specification. However this one was not. This was fine for
us; we didn't want the Saleen addition package.
When we were told the car was in we went over
to see it, my wife fell in love with it. It is her car. Before
we took the car out for a test-drive the salesman told us
there was a small problem with the car. He told us when it
came in the "Check Engine" light was on. And according
to the mechanic that checked out the car it needed an electronic
module for the engine. When I started the engine to test drive
the car I experienced a poor idle. The Tachometer would fluctuate
up and down as the engine was trying to idle. When I told
the salesman I wasn't happy with the idle he assured me that
the new module would fix the problem. My wife and I have dealt
with C&C Ford for years and trusted their word on it.
He, the salesman also told me at that time there was a shortage
of these Modules due to the current demand for the new vehicles,
there weren't many available for replacements. And we would
have to wait a couple weeks for one to come in. I asked him
if they could take one off another vehicle there and he said
no. Reason being the Module is programmed to the vehicle and
once it's programmed it couldn't be reformatted and reprogrammed
for a different vehicle.
We waited for the new Module to come in and
it was replaced. We still had the same idling problem. A short
time later we took it back for the same rough idle. The service
writer called and said it was better. One of the Service Writers
told my wife that the engine mount needed to be adjusted and
all was well. When I got in the car it was still the same.
The car went back again this time Jim Cipriano (Field Engineer
for Ford) deemed the car to be within design intent.
I told Mr. Cipriano the car I test drove didn't
idle like this, there was no rough idle. He told me the car
was new and had to break in. He told me it was a high performance
car and that's the way they idle. I explained to him that
my wife also works with a person that has the same exact car,
engine to engine trans to trans and it idles smoothly. That
fell on deaf ears. He said the car was okay.
I'm sending you this letter hoping Ford Customer
Service will resolve this problem. Within the last 8 years
we have purchased a 1995 Ford F-150, 2000 Ford F-350 Dually
to tow our race car, my wife's 2000 Ford Taurus, and now this
2002 Mustang GT. As you can see we put a lot of trust in Ford,
were hoping you can resolve this very annoying problem.
