I have
an account with Providian Bank that was recently turned over
to My Card Account. Though Providian gave notice about the
change in the third quarter of 2002, I did not find out my
account was closed until December 2002. I did not receive
any notice that my account was being closed. The letters I
received from Providian informed me that my account was being
transferred. I was told that I would receive more information
once the account was transferred. All I received was the new
card service name: My Card Account. I have called both Providian
and My Card Account about my account, but neither will tell
me way my account was closed. My Card Account tells me Providian
closed the account before turning it over to them. My Card
Account would not tell me who the card issuer is (I was given
a Master Card account number) and Providian says it is no
longer are the issuer. I recently made an online payment on
my account since it was transferred and the ACH payee is Providian.
My Card Account told me that Providian did not close all the
accounts transferred to them. Some were issued a new active
Master Card account in place of the Visa account they had
with Providian. I am writing Providian to find out why my
account was closed. I am also writing My Card Account to inform
them that if I am not being issued a card for an active account,
I want my interest rate dropped from 23.99% to 9.90% since
I am not receiving the benefit of a usable credit line. The
bulk of my debt is for programs offered through Providian
and not for actual purchases (i.e. TV set, car, food) or services
used (i.e. mechanic repairs, lawyer, tax preparation).
Any information
that you may find out about exactly what Providian has done
with my account, and any suits that may have been brought
resulting from the changes, I would greatly appreciate knowing
about.
