| Five
different DCFS agencies were involved with placing six very
troubled children in a foster home run by a 64 year
old woman. When police began searching the house, they came
to a bedroom. In
that bedroom sat a bed with something under the cover. Officer
Oscar Arteaga was shocked when we realized what was under
that cover. A three year old little boy with a 10 foot (3meter)
chain wrapped three times around his neck and held in place
by a padlock. The boy's foster mother Mary Bryant, said
that the boy was chained up for stealing food. Officer Arteaga
stated that if the boy had fallen off the bed, he'd have
choked to death. Mary Bryant and her boyfriend Melvin Bond
(47) were taken into custody. Mr. Bond was charged with misdemeanor
child endangerment while Mary Bryant was charged with felony
child endangerment and weapons and drugs charges. The five
children living in the home ranging from three years old
to eleven were immediately taken into the custody of the
state Department of Children and Family Services, an older
child
was left in the home. Cook County Public Guardian Patrick
Murphy slammed DCFS for placing so many children in the home.
Heck of a lot of good it does for these children now, after
they've suffered the physical and mental abuse. |
