"Both Sides Stand
Hard" |
| The
Boulder police force were swamped with crank calls, useless
tips, psychics who could solve
the crime and
just about every person with their own theory about who murdered
JonBenet. They were wracked with people questioning their ability
to solve this case, as well they should have. The crime scene
was contaminated before it could be tagged as a crime scene.
If it had been an actually been a kidnapping, they might have
been watching them, as the note instructed them not to contact
the police. The officer that was first on the scene, noticed
that Patsy had a fully made up face and perfectly coifed hair.
She had handled the so-called ransom note twice and John had
touched it as well. The only identifiable fingerprints on the
ransom note belonged to Patsy, John, and the technician at
the lab that processed the note. It was long, and not like
the typical ransom note. Most ransom notes are short and say
as little as possible, leaving behind as little evidence as
possible in a crime scene. John Ramsey, at the time, was a
millionaire and the ransom note asked for such a small amount
of money that set off bells with law enforcement. One of the
most troubling aspects of this case is that the “kidnappers” asked
for the amount of his bonus from Access Graphics to the dollar.
The police felt like the Ramesy’s were rich and influential
and did not want to insult them. In their intimidation, they
made crucial mistakes that could easily been the information
they needed to arrest the perpetrator. The Ramsey’s were
whisked away to stay at the home of friends, while the police
set up the house as a crime scene. It was too little and far
too late. The house had by that time, was no longer a pristine
crime scene. The police let Patsy’s sister in the Ramsey
home to get funeral clothing for the family and she was asked
to put on latex gloves, which she found distasteful, and made
no secret of it. She went through the house, grabbing much
more than just clothing. Portraits, a fur coat, toys, china
figurines, bathrobes, credit card records, John’s golf
clubs, a Bible, and a steamer trunk full of personal effects.
The officer who had driven Patsy’s sister asked the officer
guarding the crime scene if this wasn’t a little excessive.
He told her to mind her own business because they already knew
who did it The
arrogance and internal politics of the city of Boulder
have failed JonBenet miserably. This case has been covered
by so many print and internet publications that JonBenet’s
death has become something of an urban myth and has misused
evidence in their pursuit of the Ramsey’s, Patsy in
particular. Recently released, the interviews given by Patsy
and John are available on the net, although I actually saw
them on a tabloid TV show. The officers on this case were
overworked, harassed and frustrated in their desire of the
pursuit of justice for this baby. And the media ate it up
and spit it back in their faces. I was at a drugstore yesterday
and as I checked out, there was yet another tabloid with
her face on it. This crime is 6 years old, the age JonBenet
was when she was murdered. The media has raped this case,
with their buying and selling of fear, to quote Oliver Stone.
The nation has seen a beautiful life cut cruelly short. And
we want to know why.
John
and Patsy took JonBenet home to Atlanta for her burial,
next to John’s daughter, Beth Pasch’s grave so
she could be beside her deceased sister. The authorities
wanted to delay the release of JonBenet’s body until
further tests could be preformed to possibly help them catch
the killer. The Ramsey’s asked if their independent
expert that they hired specially for this purpose could be
allowed to view, not participate, just to be present during
the tests. The BPD and the firm they used to develop those
tests both refused. The DA’s offices told them that
the body couldn’t be held like that, and released JonBenet
to her eternal rest. Directly after that, the police were
asking for formal interviews and to interview people that
the Ramsey’s had names as possible suspects in the
case. By this time, both Ramsey’s had separate lawyers
and yet another to protect their son, Burke. People have
criticized the legal maneuverings, but John maintains that
the lawyers were not his idea, a friend retained them while
John was in the first stage of his grieving process. They
would go back and fourth with the BPD and who did or didn’t,
said, or did not say. And it was so until this day, the sixth
anniversary of her death.
