Neonaticide - The Killing of Our Infants

Crimes Against Children is nothing new; it’s only becoming more intolerable to our society. It’s almost certain that child abuse or child murder is still not taken as seriously as it should be in our nation. People, for whatever reason, do not realize that we are allowing our future generation to be killed. More importantly, we’re giving them the morals and the beliefs that they will utilize as adults when raising their own children. That’s a really scary thought.

There are several reasons why this is continuing to happen, several reasons why it will go on for many years to come. It starts at the top, at the justice department and goes on down through social services. Laws need to be changed and people need to be willing to stand up for what they believe in, for what is right. It is not right to murder a helpless child and call it Post Natal Abortion, nor is it right for our communities to accept it as freedom of speech. The line has to be drawn somewhere and in my opinion; it’s drawn at our children yet to come.

The only thing that enrages our country more than recent outbreak of Neonaticide is the punishment that the perpetrators are receiving as punishment. Prosecutors sometimes don’t prosecute, juries hardly ever convict and those that are found guilty almost never go to jail. Barbara Kirwin, a forensic psychologist stated that in nearly 300 cases of woman who were charged with Neonaticide in the United States and Britain, no woman spent more than one night in jail. What is the trend in killing our babies and why is there no punishment for it?

It could have something to do with people such as Steven Pinker, a professor of psychology who has controversial views on the act of Neonaticide. He has stated that killing a newborn infant should not be penalized as harshly as killing an older child. Why? I asked myself the same question. Pinker’s answer might disturb you. He stated that “To a biologist, birth is as arbitrary a milestone as any other” He also mentioned that babies aren’t real people because they don’t have the ability to reflect upon themselves as a continuous locus of consciousness, to form and savor plans for the future, to dread death, and to express the choice not to die. “Our immature neonates don’t possess these traits any more than mice do.” Several other philosophers have concluded that that neonates are not persons, and thus Neonaticide should not be classified as murder.

I was horrified to find that there is a new term for this horrendous crime. It has actually been labeled Post Natal Abortion. Being honest here, I’m still totally shocked and horrified when I came across the web site describing what it is, and that Melissa Drexler used this means to murder her child. Post Natal Abortion is basically killing your child after it’s been born healthy. The web site I came across is located at: http://www.geocities.com/capitolhill/lobby/4432/page2.html

This site will literally make you sick. One heading reads as follows: Sex without consequences, easily available abortion and condoned infanticide are your rights as an American! Use them or lose them! Speak out for women’s choice! If you know of someone who regrets being a mother, let her know it’s not too late! It’s her choice and no one has the right to judge her deeply personal decision! Melissa Drexler has pioneered the way!”

In another section it reads, “The term post natal abortion actually covers a variety of procedures. The most common is the manual respiratory inhibition method – the one which Melissa Drexler used. In this method of Post Natal Abortion the woman simply disrupts the flow of air to the lungs of the product of conception by grasping firmly the throat area of the unwanted “child”. This should produce an abortion within two minutes.” Yet another section describes three other ways to complete Post Natal Abortion. It is people such as the above mentioned who are not only endorsing neonaticide, but actually promoting it.

A Few Case Files regarding Neonaticide:

Amy Grossberg – Gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The baby was beaten savagely as he suffered multiple skull fractures caused by blunt trauma and shaking. In a letter written by Amy Grossberg before the birth of the baby she stated that she wanted the pregnancy to “go away” She went on to say, “Why won’t it just go away? Haven’t we suffered enough? What did we do to deserve this? All I want is for it to go away. I can’t get caught.” She was convicted of manslaughter and was given a suspended sentence of two and one half years with credit given for 64 days she had already served in prison.

Brian Peterson – Conspired with Amy Grossberg to kill their newborn infant son. He admitted to throwing the babies dead body into a trashcan. No one is certain who committed the violence against the baby. Peterson was given a suspended sentence of two years and walks free today.

Melissa Drexler – “The Prom Mom” Went to her senior prom, gave birth to a healthy baby boy, strangled him to death, and then placed his body in a trashcan. After murdering her son, she calmly returned to the prom and requested the Metallica song “Unforgiven” to be played for her boyfriend. She plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter and received a sentence of 15 years. With good behavior, she’ll be out in three. Her baby didn’t even have a day to live; yet she’ll be punished to only three years?

Jennifer Garcia – Two days after Melissa Drexler’s baby was killed police arrested 19-year-old Jennifer Garcia for killing her newborn baby girl, then dumping her in a garbage can outside her home in a middle class suburb.
