A Killer Among Us
The Timeline of Events for June 12, 1994.

The timeline of events surrounding the night of June 12, 1994 are pretty easily put together from eye witness accounts, court room testimony and police reports. Some is speculation, but over all it's pretty close to what happened that fateful night. If you follow along with the times, locations and testimony, you can see that this is indeed the logical way the night and following days unfolded.

Mr. OJ Simpson was found not guilty by a panel of his peers (ironically the panel consisted of 10 African Americans, one of mixed heritage and one white). I have been telling you from the beginning of these articles to take your race blinders off and certainly are not trying to put them back on myself. The genetic makeup of the panel is a crucial piece of the entire episode. Why?

The murders took place on the heels of the Rodney King trial where police men were acquitted of charges stemming from the beating of Rodney King. If you remember correctly, the verdict brought about the LA riots (something that I'm not even going to touch on, ok yes I am. After the verdict of OJ Simpson did you see ANY person inciting the riots that followed the Rodney King verdict? No. Do you know why? Because OJ was found innocent. What would have happened had he been found guilty? Another LA riot you can be certain of that.) The makeup of the jury panel would ultimately be OJ's great fortune because they wouldn't let one of their own hang, guilty or not, not after the Rodney King verdict.

Timeline of Events beginning on June 12, 1994

June 12, 1994

2:30 p.m. In a conversation with "Kato" Kaelin, OJ tells Kaelin that he and Nicole aren't "together"

7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. (sometime in between theses hours) Paula Barbieri breaks off her relationship with OJ by phone.

4:30 p.m. Ron Goldman clocks in at Mezzaluna restaurant, where he works as a waiter.

6:00 p.m. Nicole Brown Simpson and OJ Simpson leave their daughter, Sydney's, dance recital held at the Paul Revere Junior High School. They depart in separate vehicles as they had arrived. At home, OJ tells Kato that Nicole and a friend had been wearing very "tight" outfits, Im assuming he was referring to the black dress that Nicole was killed in.

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Kato talks to OJ as a football game ending.

6:30 p.m. Nicole and her party of ten arrive at Mezzaluna restaurant.

8:30 p.m. Nicole's check totaling $213.95 including tip, is cashed out on Nicole's American Express credit card, then exits the restaurant shortly after.

8:30 p.m. Kato gets out of the Jacuzzi and returns to his room to make a phone call.

9:10 p.m. OJ and Kato go to McDonalds in OJ's Rolls Royce.

9:22 - 9:25 The two arrive at the McDonalds drive through window.

9:30 p.m. - Judith Brown calls Mezzaluna to inquire lost prescription glasses that she may have left there.

9:35 - Nicole calls the restaurant and asks to speak to Ron Goldman, her friend. No one heard the conversation between the two but it's widely assumed that Nicole asked Ron to drop the glasses off as her house was easily passed on his way home.

9:40 - 9:45 - Kato and OJ return home with food from McDonalds. Kato states that OJ looked "tired". They both retire to their parts of the house.

10:00 p.m. - OJ removes the dome light from his Bronco then carefully places it under the passenger side seat. The time frame as to when OJ removed the dome light is known only to himself, but it's assumed that the light was removed before he left his residence in order to avoid detection or recognition. No one knows for certain when it was removed, only that the light was indeed removed, not replaced, found under the passenger side seat and it was in perfect working condition. Police often use this tactic when on stakeouts, to avoid detection.

10:00 - 10:15 - OJ drives the two miles to Nicole's Bundy residence. He proceeds to slit her throat nearly decapitation her. He stabs her in her neck, throat and chest. She was dead within in minutes.

10:15 p.m. - Several neighbors report hearing a dog's plaintive wail, a cry for help so to speak.

10:25 p.m. - Mr. Allan Park arrives at OJ's Rockingham residence, at the Ashford street gate. He decides to wait a few minutes before buzzing OJ to let him know that he was there.

10:30 p.m. - Robert Heidstra, one of Nicole's neighbors, reports hearing a man's voice shouting, "Hey! Hey! Hey!." He also reported hearing another man respond, but could not distinguish exactly what was said.

10:30 - 10:40 p.m. - We can only assume that the voice that Mr. Heidstra heard was that of Ron Goldman and the responding voice was that of OJ Simpson. Going on that assumption, you can place Ron's murder between this ten minute time frame. Ron more than likely walked upon OJ murdering Nicole, being the type of man he was, he would have tried to stop it. When OJ realized that someone else was there, not only did the rage take over (with the thought of this man there to see Nicole, not returning glasses, but for other reasons) but he also knew he couldn't let this man walk away alive.

10:40 p.m. - Simpson flee's the murder scene leaving his size 12 Bruno Magli bloody shoe print behind. In his rush to get away from the scene and return home, he blows a red stop light nearly running into the side of Jill Shivleys van, a resident of the same Brentwood neighborhood. She states that she was positive it was OJ Simpson she was nearly hit by, because he stuck his head clearly out the window an shouted, "Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"

10:40 p.m. - Allan Park begins buzzing the Simpson residence on the Ashford Street entrance of the Rockingham residence.

10:44 p.m. - OJ arrives back at the Rockingham estate after murdering Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. He hastily parks the Bronco, then reaches under the passenger seat trying to reach the dome light to replace it (hence the blood smears on the passenger side floorboard). He gives up the search for the light realizing he doesn't have much time and proceeds to climb the fence.

10:45 p.m. OJ over shoots the fence and falls into Kato's bungalow wall. In the process he doesn't realize that he's dropped the second bloody glove, the first one being left at the murder scene.

10:45 p.m. - Kato, while on the phone, hears a series of three thumps on the wall from the outside.

10:48 p.m. - 10:55 p.m. - Kato cuts off his phone call then proceeds outside to investigate the source of the bumps on his wall. He views the limo in the driveway of the Ashford Street entrance and proceeds around the house to continue searching the noise out.

10:50 p.m. - Park stops buzzing the house after repeated attempts with no response. He then pages his boss, calls his mother then calls his boss's home.

10:55 p.m. - Parks boss returns his page and tells him to continue waiting.

10:55 p.m. - A neighbor of Nicole's finds her Akita unattended with bloody paws, stomach and neck. He takes the dog home with him, not sure who he belongs to, he calls the police department. Another neighbor takes the dog home, but it remains agitated.

10:56 - 10:57 p.m. - Park sees a white male carrying a flashlight. At almost the same exact moment Park sees a six foot tall roughly 200 lb black man wearing dark clothes cross the driveway then enter the residence. Kaelin, still concerned about the noises he heard, approaches Park and asks him if OJ over slept, then asks Park if he felt any earth quake tremors. Approximately 20 seconds after Park sees the black man enter the residence, OJ answers the buzz and states that he's over slept and was just getting out of the shower.

11:01 p.m. - Lights begin coming on in the house.

11:10 p.m. - Simpson exits the Rockingham house with 5 bags. Kato helps load the bags into the limo. OJ hastily stops him as Kato is reaching for a moon shaped bag that he recalls is very full. Simpson tells Kato that he'll take care of that bag himself.

11:15 p.m. - The limo exits the residence with Park, Simpson and luggage then heads for LAX.

11:35 p.m. - OJ arrives at LAX.

11:45 p.m. - Simpson flight leaves for Chicago. During the flight, other passengers report that Simpson appeared to act normal but made several trips to the bathroom.

Monday June 13, 1994

12:10 a.m. - Nicole's dog leads her neighbor to the murder scene where he describes what he saw as "blood flowing like a river."

12: a.m. - Police arrive at the Bundy murder scene. They soon discover the dead body of Nicole Brown Simpson and a second body they identify as being Ron Goldman.

4:15 a.m. - OJ checks into the O'Hare Plaza Hotel.

4:30 a.m. - Police go to Simpson's estate to notify him of the murders at which point they notice blood on Simpson's white Ford Bronco and more blood leading to the house.

5:00 a.m. - Detectives Mark Fuhrman and Phillip Vannatter arrive at the Rockingham estate. There are lights on in the upstairs of the house and several vehicles in the driveway which leads officers to believe that there are people in the residence.

5:15 a.m. - 5:30 a.m. - Detectives and police examine what would later be proven to be blood stains on Simpson's Bronco and blood stains leading away from the location. They attempt to contact the people in the house. When that fails they call Westec Security (Simpson's security people). Westec dispatches two cars to the location, they also give police the phone number into the location. After examining the blood and failed attempts to get any person on the phone inside the house, they determine that there may be an emergency situation and climb the fence.

5:30 a.m. - 5:35 a.m. - Police wake Arnelle Simpson in OJ's guesthouse.

5:40 a.m. - Arnelle takes police into the house with a front door key. Officers inquire about the live in maid and are directed to the maids room where they give it a once over. Police then make arrangements for the Simpson children. Cathy Randa is called.

6:00 a.m. - OJ is contacted in Chicago and inform him of his wife's tragic death. Officer Lange notes the strange behavior of Simpson. At hearing of his wife's death Simpson exhibited an unusual demeanor. He reacted with what could only barely termed "mild shock". Detective Lange would later state his suspicions about OJ's demeanor. In over 20 years on the force, Lange had investigated well over 100 murders. The family of the victims would more usually than not, react with much more emotion than Simpson displayed. Along with the emotional out pouring, they would always asked the standard questions, who, what ,when, where and why. Simpson asked none of these questions but told officers he would return home. During this time, Kato tells police about the loud thumping he heard the night before and Det. Fuhrman walks down the path to investigate. Fuhrman goes no where else on the property and officers don't investigate any other area's of the estate. In the area behind Kato's bungalow, adjacent to the air conditioning unit, they find the now famous bloody glove, presumed, later proven, to match the glove left at the Bundy scene.

6:30 a.m. - Simpson checks out of the O'Hare Plaza hotel.

7:10 a.m. - LAPD criminologists, Dennis Fung, arrives at the Simpson estate and blocks off the scene. He places paper cups over the blood drops.

7:30 a.m. - Police secure the Simpson estate.

7:41 a.m. - Simpson flies back to L.A.

10:45 a.m. - A judge issues a search warrant for Simpson's estate.

11:08 a.m. - Simpson arrives home and is handcuffed by police.

11:30 a.m. - Howard Weitzman arrives and has police remove the handcuffs.

12:00 a.m. - Simpson is escorted to Park Center, LAPD headquarters' for questioning. (Transcript of police interview are here in a .doc file available for your download.)

4:15 p.m. - Simpson leaves police headquarters.
