After
months of investigation, Kansas City Police are still at a
loss as to why the body of a small child they named "Precious
Doe" has not been identified. She was found beheaded
in the woods in Kansas City, Missouri on April 28th. "Precious
Doe" was found while police were searching for a missing
elderly man who was later found safe. The area where Precious
was found is approximately 5 miles southeast of downtown and
not heavily traveled which could indicate that the killer
was familiar with the area. The woods cover several city blocks
and are bordered by older homes. The area is less than a mile
from spots such as the city zoo, an outdoor theater, and golf
courses.
Investigators believe that Precious was killed first then
transferred to her resting place in the woods. Police will
not say how she was killed or whether she was sexually assaulted
before her death. They did comment that the body of the child
had been in the woods for a "few days" before she
was found. Three days after the discovery of her body, volunteers
who were helping the police found Precious' head in a garbage
bag nearby in the woods.
The fact that Precious has yet to be identified leads investigators
to believe that either the child was not from the area, perhaps
the parents themselves are dead, or were involved in the killing.
"There's been alot of guesswork, but that's all it is
until we get her identified," Willford said ,"This
is the most frustrating investigation many of us have ever
worked on. It's disturbing that someone would do such a monstrous
thing to a child, and it's upsetting that we're delayed in
bringing the perpetrator to justice."
Precious is an African American child, approximately 3 to
4 years old. She is described as being about 3 feet tall and
41 pounds with a small crescent shaped birthmark on her shoulder.
She had big brown eyes and neatly done cornrows in her hair.
